John I’m a senior citizen now I recently retired and I carry a firearm at home and I carry 24/7/365! And that’s 24 hours! I sleep with a gun! My wife thinks I’m nuts! Ok but we are safe!
I live in a very safe, very low-crime, lower-middle class suburban neighborhood and I "home carry." And in any given instance when a gun and other weapons are not literally on my person at a particular moment when at home inside my house, they are within arms reach. And I've made it a habit that when I go out to do yard work or even just to empty the trash, to always have at least one handgun on me (oftentimes two, one semi-auto and one revolver), two extra magazines for any semi-auto and/or an ammo belt for any revolver, a knife (usually a large fixed blade hunting knife), and pepper spray. I'm not only thinking about possible dangerous human threats: I'm also thinking about possible dangerous nonhuman animal threats. And I try never to just rush blind out of the door to go do something. Instead, I take a minute or two to discreetly look out the window and survey the property and any goings-on in the immediate environment. People may say taking all those precautions and carrying all those weapons just to mow the law for 40 minutes, much less to take out the trash for 90 seconds, is overkill and they might think I'm paranoid, but I don't live my life in fear. I'm not paranoid. I'm prepared.

My Uncle lives in Brazil and has suffered from crime enough that it doesn't surprise me that Brazilians seem ready and even cavalier about defensive situations. After one incident where my uncle was beaten almost senseless with a sock full of rocks the police showed up to make a report of stolen goods. A couple of weeks later when a video camera was recovered a police officer confiscated it because it might have pictures of the perps on the tape. That was a number of years ago and the camera was never returned. The cops can be as bad as the bad guys in Brazil. So Brazilians need to arm up and be ready.
