There are multiple problems with the strategies in this video. Quality Aikido provides better solutions. The first problem is that this attack is not actually being demonstrated at anything close to real speed. It’s just next to impossible to grab or stop that hand at the wrist. Second it’s all arm movement and no body.An Aikido response would involve moving your body and if connecting with the knife hand doing so higher up the arm before sliding down. The arm is moving slower near the elbow and it’s much easier to connect there as the elbow won’t be pulled back far enough to prevent it. It’s worth noting that he shows an Aikido technique, Sankyo, but doesn’t do a good job of it. Nor of the disarm. The technique needs more energy and whole body application. The disarm also will require more than what is shown here.
