Nice video breakdown. I'm a Combatives instructor myself (also have a black sash in Kung Fu and a Black belt in Japanese Jujitsu) and I can see where he's coming from. Combatives typically does compare its techniques to Krav Maga so they can show a distinction between the two self defense firms and strategies. I've worked with Krav instructors who don't like my techniques and vice versa, but overall I respect both forms of self defense because they have the same goal.

Also, here's a little info about Combatives and its origins. There was an incorrect history given in thee comments below…

As someone who has seen many a street fight, against other styles of fighting, a boxer ( and when I say boxer I mean a guy who gets in the ring gears up and hits and gets hit ) almost always comes out on top, because most people you run into have little to no fighting skills

Best is to keep distance by footwork, avoid, and not block a boxers punches. You'll get knocked out because you don't know their skill. Use jiu jitsu to throw the guy on the floor.

Missing a step literally. You have to step in and jam. The islrst connection is useless if it does not contain offense and smothering to keep the opponent from firing again.

So if he is a Boxer , and your a Wing Chun fighter , once you have his hands blocked , wouldnt it also be logical to go for a low front or side kick ?

Styles matter! A wing chun master has no chance against a boxer after his first class.

Sorry for the criticism, but I think its not very sincere to display the boxing/modern arts as slower in here. People can actually train combos pretty fast. Might give a wrong idea to people.

Righto bro!! The minute you go to smother, theres short snap kicks to your knees.

Thereโ€™s always paper rocks scissors but anytime you put a limb out, you restrict your own vision.

The strike you donโ€™t see is the one that hits you.

I would to work with you for while. My style of fighting is so close to what your teaching. I've not worked in over a year. Due to cancer. Today cAncer free. I hope it stays that way! But I'm so weak sloppy in style. Been looking for a good teacher. So far I really like what I've seen in your clips. Form my teaching. There so much that is the same Now I was in to taekwondo Kempo Boxing other styles as well. In my 40+ years of practicing. Would really like to work my ass off with you.

The big problem with wing chin is that if u get in trouble with someone who know what they doin. Even amateur boxer with 1 year experience u have bad time. It may work well on untrained ppl but in general I think the boxing style does play out the most useful in any type the scenario in this video shows
