Can joint locks work for Self Defense, maybe, but you need to be very skilled to get your timing right and execute them effectively. There is one area of martial arts I’ve found they work the best.

You have to control elbow to wrist lock and not sure how I will get a chance in real life but in bjj opportunities come often

of course and we all know that in the history of submission grappling, and grappling is very effective if both parties wear steel armor so that it is not effective in hitting.

This video applies to every martial arts technique: striking, grappling and weapons. Everything works, but in the same breath nothing works!

Just because they dont work without the proper set up or experience dosent mean you shouldnt jump on a wrist lock if the opportunity is there in a grappling situation, even if it dosnet make them tap it will open up other opportunities in a 1 on 1 plus if the wrist lock is there, and the guy is good enough, he will break your shit 💀

My dad has the hand texture of a lions tongue and he is built like joe Rohan but taller and he tells me it’s best to use ur palm to poke the eyes hit their temple and fingers in ears he told me if it is neccesary teach them a lesson with the wrist lock instead of a submission cause it’s way more dangerous

Agreed, but there is another use for wristlocks:
If you are a policeofficer and do have to controll an aggressive and unpredictable person it is still one of the methods that cause the lowest amount of damage to that person yet let you controll them further (after bringing them down) without waisting too much energy.
For selfdefense… Yeah, well… a nice straight punch into the face does usually a better job.

I'm not the same kind of self-defense artist you are because I run in where you run out. If I hear a bunch of people abusing somebody & Ally I'll wait into it just because I can't live with myself if I run away like you do. Since you're looking to run all the time wrist locks won't work for you you need to strike or a push or shove so you can get away. I had a friend named rotten Jimmy and man was he awful he was 5-foot 465 lb of grease lightning and it is all fifth joint locks and feet there was nothing to him you couldn't see anything but fist joint locks and feet. He was in a bar one-time misbehaving because no one could tell him what to do for some reason and the owner of the bar came up there with for bouncers behind him and poke rotten Jimmy on the chest with his finger. Before you can say trouser biscuit little Jimmy had that manager twisted up in a joint lock and he didn't let everybody make a circle around him like you do and then shove the littlest one to get away he had that manager right in between him and the bouncers and everytime them bouncers even blink he twists a little bit on that joint lock. Every time those bouncers even blink Jimmy put the paint on that boss and told them I'll punish him for you boys we don't want to watch me punish him don't move I'll punish him I'll punish him for you. The manager saying shut up and do what he told you to shut up and do what he tells you shut up shut up telling the crew to be quiet.then he did the run around like a little beer move that you were knocking everybody for when you were letting to make a big circle around you right and Jimmy didn't want you to make a circle around you because he didn't want to have to beat all of you to death. So he used The joint lock to keep the manager between him and the other for bouncers back his way to the door turn loose of the manager and he was gone. It was a wonderful thing for these people because those managers and those bouncers and all the other customers couldn't have done anything with rotten Jimmy rotten Jimmy train so much and had he could run ten miles without breathing heavy that if you jumped on rotten Jimmy you just couldn't bring enough people for rotten Jimmy to wear out going through the crowd. I love rotten Jimmy haven't seen him in years. I just hope whenever somebody is abusing some woman in an alley or something rotten Jimmy happens to be on his way home from work and has a few minutes to spare to teach a person not to abuse a woman.

my dad used to wrist lock me and pressure point my neck or traps to get compliance when I was being a little shit. "Clean your room!"
""NO!!!!" pinches neck "OK OK OK OK OK!" or I'd go to drop my school supplies all over the table and he'd wrist lock me and be like "AH" and I'd stop my bullshit before the pain got worse 😂😂😂😂😂😂

It works when implementing strikes ( atemi) in combination with wrist locks and throws . Not mention eye gauges and throat punches . Remember this is streets . Has worked for me . Anyway that’s my 2 cents 😁

Ya they are mostly good for getting the feel of your opponent, how to manipulate joints. But in a fight… they Shuld be the last thing you try. That said when you get one in a fight it is cool as shit. In the 90s thanks to Van Damme people liked to leave there punches hainging out. That is the only time I have ever fallen into one. Everyone was very impressed including myself. 😂

He’s missing one huge point if you’re really skilled at juju jujitsu Judo on the street but with grappling learning with grappling not just Street moves good both together. Hell if you just did tournaments stupid jujitsu person still that shit ain’t gonna fly and laugh at that shit I mean if you have no street skills, you better be really high level tournaments but then still as long as you’re brave enough to go forward forget about it they’re all done.
