I’ve been beating on this 1x Micro Prism for over a year now. About 3 months into it, I realized that there were some serious advantages to running this prism; especially for our preppers and older guys with astigmatism. At 6 months, I decided I couldn’t kill it, and was ready to film this video. I filmed most of the talking portions 4 months ago. However, I kept trying to put off the release because I wanted to run it in “just one more class.” I keep forgetting to tell the other instructors to take a few pictures for me, so I didn’t have much content for editors to work with. That aside; I have TONS of hours and ammo spent using this optic. I’ve got them mounted on 3 of my rifles. I’m finally ready to vent my love. Now, I know many are gonna say that this review isn’t really relevant anymore, because it’s been out for a year already. I don’t care. I wanted to beat this one till it died… and it just wouldn’t. Primary Arms 1x Micro Prism is a homerun. TR.

I bought a Primary Arms Comp4 clone 13 yrs ago – I was told by my Aimpoint owning buddies that it was cheap chinisium and would fall apart. It went on a PSA carbine .

I now own a Aimpoint Pro on a BCM Haley Jack midlength as well as a Trijicon MRO on a Spikes Tactical M4LE, and that old Primary Arms 30mm red dot is still alive and kicking on that same PSA carbine with a chrome lined 1/7 4150 barrel. Was told the PSA was junk too!🤣

I change the battery C2032 battery every year) – I trust it more than my MRO which I had to mail back and wait 2 months for a return after the dot flickered…

Which would be better, the primary arms 1x prism or a red dot for 25 to 150 yard shooting

Can you run this optic this far forward? How is the eyebox/eye relief/scopeshadow in this optic?

Does 1x mean there is no magnification? So you can cowitness with it?

Thank you for this review! Picked up my blaster last week with a Trijicon MRO & apparently my astigmatism is now horrible… the dot was a hot mess. Looks like a prism is the way to go for me now.

I’m assuming that eye relief would be the same as a RDS

Ive Been debating getting this. Only concern i have is this video is the only one ive seen with the set up i like. Irons, magnifier, and the optic mounted at the farther point on the upper receiver. Has anyone had experience with this setup? And how was it compared to a red dot?

Finally a video where I get to see the setup I want to run with this–optic with magnifier and BUIS. That was the final hurdle in determining my purchase. 👍

When Earth didn't they give us the three dot bullet drop compensator?
I get that the bottom of legs go out to 400, but a lot of us are shooting 77 grains a lot further.
This is the main reason that I have not bought it. I would still like a more fine adjustment

They should also make another version with a larger EOTech size window.

Outstanding video. Just purchased a Springfield Saint Victor 9mm. I was in the Market for a sight. This just confirmed my decision. Also being a Former Marine I like how it stands up to some tough abuse. Thanks SM.

I recently bought a Saint Vic PDW. I researched in which optic to get. Your vid convinced me to get 1x micro prism. Thanks.

I tried one a bit back and really liked it a lot.
However, with my 76 yo eyes I found the front chevron a bit small.
    Sent it back.
Has this been enlarged in the Gen II?
    Thoughts?

Thanks Carl , the most indepth explanation of this micro prism setup that I have seen yet , plus it makes perfect sense to me . I can tell you are hopped up on this setup , and I can see why. Very good detail and explanation of real world shooting that anyone could ask for . Keep up the good work and after watching your videos I feel that I can trust your judgment on pretty much any new product out here. Very well presented. Thanks alot .!

I am thinking of getting a flip to side magnifier for my 1x ACSS Cyclops reticule because my “home defense” AR is a suppressed piston 11.5”. Any thoughts on the 1x without the magnifier pushed forward with enough room to fit the magnifier? Also, any idea if anyone makes a flip to side that cowitnesses that 1x and has a QD? I love the idea of being able to remove it easily when not needed or to use as a standalone monocular. Thanks.

Sounds great. Re: the bazillion hours of battery life, based on a quick internet search sounds like the CR2032 has a shelf life of 4-5 years. So even if you don't use them at all they should be replaced every 4 years, if not sooner.

Karl, love your content, really appreciate your style. Apparantly we're about the same age, 1967 was a good year for me. You gotta be right around there somewhere.
About the sight. I just bought this optic and the 3x magnifier. Loving the look of it and how easy it was to make clear to my less than perfect vision. How are you liking the sight now that you've got a bit more time with it?
I failed to get a mount for the magnifier because PA was out of stock on the base that doesn't have the button and I'm not sold yet on the 2.26 Unity stuff. How do you like the button mount? Have you tried any other mounts? Do you have a preferred height?
Anyway, always looking forward to your next release, keep up the great work. 👍

As I have gotten older and my astigmatism has returned and worsened, i have begun switching all my red dots and magnifiers out for etched reticles. Either the Primary Arms micro 1x prisms or various LPVO's. I dont have to worry about optics being useless because of dead batteries now or an EMP attact from the CCP.

What your describing isnt paralax but rather scope shadow. Paralax is the amount of movement in the dot or reticle off target relative to your head position. You will notice this with older red dots if you move your head the dot will bounce around off target instead of staying on target.

The Primary Arms 3x microprism is also excellent. Lets you reach out without a magnifier and still great for CQB as long as you turn the reticle up bright. A bit tighter eye box, but I guess you can't have everything!
