Great video! As you mentioned and I have observed, my Glock 21 doesn't have much more recoil than my Glock 17. The 40 SW Glock 23) and the 10MM (Glock 20) certainly do. It's all in what you like and for me it's either my 45 or my 10MM. Others swear by their 9MM. No problem. I just Wish I had known years ago what I have come to like today because it would have saved me a great deal of money. Depends on the situation as to what I carry. Thanks for finally bringing some common sense to this discussion. It is about dumping energy (all of it) into the target and size of wound channel.

While shooting suppressed or using ball ammo, I’d pick .45 ACP. If I’m shooting hollow points, I’d prefer 9mm but would be happy either way.

Nice job. What we DO know is what we know. In this case using these two pistols and these to types of ammo. We know what the .45 did because we HAVE the projectile. It expanded and did as advertised. We do NOT know the extent to which the 9mm expanded because a simple backstop to catch the 9mm was not set up. As someone noted, the Critical Duty is built to penetrate then penetrate and kill. So as the SGM noted, you decide. If your objective is one shot through a jacket and into a body the .45 seems ideal. If you are shooting through a windshield for example then into a body, you may want the 9 penetration of Critical Duty. Every make and model is different, add your mission and countless other factors makes for a complicated analysis. As always, what gets under discussed is the importance of placement. No one discussed it but if you really want to cover all situations and you anticipate a situation with a mix of needs, fill your magazine with alternative rounds, expanders and penetrators! Ponder….

Ask the guys who shoots power guns at steel shoots.
45 is got the power rating to run the course.
    9 doesn't quite cut it.
    Ask how i know

All the talking is just meant to confuse you and overwhelm you with information like it is a difficult thing to gather. Terminal ballistics are easy to figure what has more power. Organic gel preferred. FPE needs to be divided by the inches in penetration. Higher FPE per inch of penetration equals more power delivered. Desired penetration should be met simply by the amount of penetration. Wether its a minimum amount of penetration or between a certain amount it should be determined if it is met when comparing 2 or more rounds in similar gel tests but the one with the greater number of FPE/inch of penetration is the more powerful round. Don't believe me? Go find gel test results of 2 rounds that you are familiar with power wise and do the math. Do the results match your guesstimate?

clear gel blocks lie. organic gel is more realistic results. 45ACP can be shot faster than 9mm, the opposite is total bogus.

45 may be better. However, ER surgeons will tell you that the greater number of holes means a greater chance of hitting something vital. The Glock 45 does hold quite a few rounds though.

At the end, comparing the 9mm hp and the 45 hp, the 45 clearly did more damage to the block and moved it more without much more time on targets and not much more recoil. The 45 is simply a better/more damaging round, PERIOD. No debate.

How to end the debate? That will never happen. Many people will hold up a ballistic book and scream for their favorite. Other people will hold ballistic gel up and scream for their pick. It is the old Pepsi vs Coke circle jerk.

If you are 5' 1" tall and 89lbs. You probably are not going to be proficient with a 2 inch barrel 500 win mag revolver. If you are 6' 8" tall and 310lbs your hand will probably block the slide on a sc 380.

One of the biggest things in EDC to consider is over penetration. If you hit someone behind your target. You probably will spend a lot of time in prison. You are responsible for that round wherever it goes.

Transfer of energy will always favor the larger caliber. That is why the heaviest hard cast bullets are recommended for brown bear in 10mm, 357 mag, 44 mag, 454, 460, 480, and 500 win mag. They not only punch through very well but deliver the max damage to the target. Neither 9mm or 45acp are on that list for a reason, just as all the guns on that list are not the best recommended EDC list.

To end the story. (not this debate.) Try a variety of guns, caliber's, and ammo. If the recoil of the 45 acp causes you to miss or hesitate. IT IS USELESS TO YOU AND A DAMGER TO BYSTANDERS!!! If a 380 fits and you are proficient with it. USE IT! If it is the 9mm that fits, USE IT! and if the 45 fits. USE IT! Something is better than nothing for EDC unless it is for brown bear. But over kill on a EDC for general self defense Should always be considered.

The 45 has more recoil–because it delivers more energy on target.

Yet 45 hollowpoints do not over penetrate–or they generate less and collateral damage is less likely.

If a man can handle the recoil, round compared to round, the 45 is superior.

now I just need to see variations in grain from similar manufacturers from basically the same ammo like which performs better? 230 grain .45 or 185, 180? type of bullet? Basically, I want a one to one comparison with the objectively best ammo for each caliber from the same guns for both 45 and 9.

People that are hollering all the time about how much btter 9 mil is than 50 and 45 really oughta pack it in.
9mm after all these years finally has closed the gap enough to be called good enough.
Both 40 and 45 outperform 9mm.. but modern technology has allowed enough voodoo in that 9mm can be called adequate.
I carry a 9mm every day too. But simply because i like my micro single and its so accurate and intuitive for me.
But i have full size 40s and 45s pulling home defense

For me I love 9mm but this is my take away.

45 acp better choice for self defense

9mm better choice for close combat

    Self defense
Engagements between at 1 – 2 targets with a maximum range of 25 meters.

Most engagements ends with less than 10 rounds.

    Combat
Engagements between 3 or more targets with a maximum range of 100 meters (25 meters is close combat).

Grest video! Just look at the side-by-side ammo box size difference! IMO you need significant more practice with the ,45. However, if you can shoot it, .45 DOES have more knock-down power!

One of the few videos I’ve seen where the clear ballistic blocks made a large difference that you could see.

I really thought the 135gr Hornady would have done better. +P version or federal would have done better maybe. I’ve wanted to see flat tip softpoint tests

Anyone who can shoot a 45 well, can shoot 9mm way cheaper, Better, Faster, flatter, farther, Easier, (ESPECIALLY 1 HANDED in the event of Injury, or if using an offhand light, or if you have to pick up a child to run with them ect.. THAT is something to seriously consider that almost NOBODY thinks about…And the vast amount of people who carry a gun DONT have a light on it..and will thus be FORCED to use an offhand light if illumination is necessary which it ABSOLUTELY might be. I'm dramatic I know 😂 but I'm super cereal.. ) 9mm wins for me With more capacity, less recoil, faster more accurate followup shots (which are important no matter what cartridge you choose) ECT. and frankly, 45s size, price(basically double….) , capacity, recoil, logistical support or lack thereof, decreased ability against common barriers from a duty standpoint, and several other factors just doesn't outweigh the vast benefits that 9mm has its just that simple….. For me personally 😊

But frankly I don't care what anyone else wants to carry lol, but if you ever need to obtain ammo or a mag from someone, chances are it's gonna be a Glock mag full of 9mm, which is also why I use a G19 size (Shadow Systems MR920 Elite) rather than a G17 size, because I have the benefit of far more mag compatibility since the 19 can use the single most common pistol magazine; the 15rnd Glock mag as well as every other higher capacity, and the G17 CANT use the 15 rounders

So logistics play into it a lot for me also.

But whatever pistol you carry, make sure you have a damn light mounted on it, please 😂 it is so important. Bad shit tends to happen at night and NO cartridge is good enough if you can't identify what you're about to empty your mag into…..have a good quality WML and a quality holster, and ill just be Happy you carry in general and won't tease you about your 45 😂

What if you lived in a country where 9mm is the largest caliber allowed? What would you do? I wouldn't want to be shot with a 9mm or a 22LR for matter! This constant banter back and forth on which is better has grown tiresome long ago!! Any caliber is better than a pointy stick.

Good video. Apples to apples. All things even of course. 45 does more. Bullet is twice as big. This is the best argument in all of firearms but it's only really valid and interesting to me when comparing full sized duty pistols. Other than that, all kinds of factors come into play. I do think 9mm has a niche where it might excel over .45 and that is in compacts 3 inch barrels. The penetrating nature of 9mm will give you the depth you need. .45 was really optimized for a 5 inch barrel in a 1911. Also .45 in a compact is heavier and harder to manage but for law enforcement or any situation where you're going to be carrying a full sized pistol, we may be missing a bit with 9mm euphoria.
