If a criminal has a gun that close, what you must do is not just try and take the gun away while standing in front of it. You need to not only direct the gun away from you, but move to the outside of the criminal at the same time to get out of the line of fire. If you just stay in front of it, even if you do distract him (which likely won't work), you'll likely get shot.
