In this video we cover Slings that the US military uses on their Battle Rifles.
Here, at Tactical Rifleman, we really do read the comments. Most of them are total jackassery; but every now and then one of you will ask a legitimate question or have a request for a video. We do our best to answer all of these. If you ask a good question and we don’t answer it; it’s probably because we have ALREADY ANSWERED the SAME QUESTION a dozen other times (often on the same video). That said, we do get questions that warrant a little more than a two sentence answer.
I common question is “What kind of Sling is on your Rifle?” or “What do you think of blaa blaa blaa Sling?” So, hence, here is your “Sling” video.
First, up front, I’m not gonna tell you what kind of Sling mine is (but I think it is ATS), because I hate pimping one brand over another. There are lots of great companies out there that are all putting out great gear. I don’t want to get one brand or another mad at me. All I ask is that you try to use quality gear by a reputable company. Stay away from all the counterfeit shit coming out of China.
Next, I want everyone to understand that I don’t carry “this” or “that” just because it is “sexy” or politically correct. Rather, I carry what I think is the best piece of kit for the current situation. Slings are a perfect example of this. I started carrying a Leather Sling on my first M-21 sniper rifle, because that’s all I had and that was what I was taught to shoot with. I used a 2-point short black nylon sling on my M-16 because that’s what we were issued. It sucked; so we cannibalized into the first 3-point slings, and they have since continued to morph into the slings you see used today.
I won’t pimp single point versus multipoint slings. They all have strong points and weak points. Educate yourself and choose what works best for you in your situation.
Thanks for watching. Strength & Honor, TR.

Bring the moustache back! Love it
@tactical rifleman can you do a video on the weapon and build you used in this video
Love the vid, but would have preferred if you threw a couple of names of brands in there so we don't end up buying useless junk.
You're seriously okay Karl.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Much Respect 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
STILL one of the best videos! Thanks Carl. Pros and cons of each, a little history behind the "Why" and Boom, we are off to the races.
Liked, commented and subscribed. Great content. Thank you.
NO SUCH THING AS AN ASSAULT RIFLE!!! WTF would anyone listen too this when you don’t even know the proper name of the weapon.
Thanks for the no bullshit info. I have grown tired of the auto worker prepper telling me how he carries 7 ways to start a fire in a pouch when he is wearing his chinos….
Amen brother. The two point sling is the best set up. And I dont even bother buying name brand slings. I just buy a 5 or 10 yard roll of nylon webbing and and a pack of tri-glides. Making up a sling costs about $3.50.
Having a fastex buckle is a good idea though.
I have a newbie question is there a solid practical way to carry two "primary" weapons I own a AR-15 but also own a bullpup shotgun I would like to train using both. Using a traditional sidearm is really tough on my hands.
Very Legit , So Sales Hype , Real Facts from an American Patriot.
1:43 does this guy use a sr25 for home defense!?
Thanks for all the info,, & for not endorsing the sling you had.
Best video I’ve seen on slings, you might have added how the quickstrap worked. Great video 👍
We used to thing we were so fucking high speed with our 3pt slings and collapsible stocks back in the day haha.
Didn’t try and push the sling…… it’s a first spear 😂
The only thing I'm just not sure about is the best way to use a sling with a 3 day pack. It seems no matter what I do its digging into my neck and is uncomfortable
Very good ideas, Thank you very much
In the 80’s we had a web sling somewhat like the first ‘leather’ one described and shown in the old black & white photo with the M14. We didn’t much consider all the current CQB considerations—BUT we would take the looped side (it had a metal clip that allowed for a quick disconnect) and disconnect it, then give it a 1/2 twist and then loop that over our left arm and up to above our bicep, the front had a sturdy metal quick adjust for length, you’d make the length so that you had to compress the butt into your right shoulder. The stability was great and you could hold steady in the sitting, kneeling, or off-hand. I was delighted when I found one in the surplus store! At the range people often wonder how I shoot so well and when hog hunting I can always zing more piggies 🐷. They wonder, yet if they took a second to look at this old-school simplicity, a light would go on. CQB May now be more of a reality – true but I think the art of the sling as more than just a carrying tool is being lost.
What’s the brand name of the butt stock he has on his rifle ? I always forget to make a nite of it.
Dang, man, you never told us you used to be Justin Trudeau (1:40). 🙂
“I wish there was one sling to rule them all” but it’s not that simple. Excellent video sir! Thank you
Why is that when moving the rifle to the back on a two point sling, people slide it over top of the primary shoulder? I'm a relative novice to the AR platform, but I find it more comfortable to grab the buffer tube/buttstock with my left hand and slide it around my support side to where it ends up stowed across my back.
Thanks
Like the pic of the guy shooting the old '17 at the beginning of the video. They're a boatload of fun to shoot. Would love to see you guys run some of your drills with one. Great video as usual.
You are the truth KE. Strength and Honor brother.
