Rhythm and shooting? Yeah, it’s a thing.
Think about it. Even if you weren’t blessed with a musical ear your brain is comfortable with rhythm.

So what does this have to do with shooting?

Well… to make it simple, when trying to speed up a string of fire if you are able to evenly space your shots you will be more easily able to control your recoil expectancy (which is every shooter’s ongoing battle with ourselves). In addition, practicing even spacing with the trigger finger can make the finger movement faster and smoother.

Where can this get us in trouble?

Getting caught in a loop makes us lose our critical reaction flexibility. For example if we get used to only shooting three rounds per engagement it will be difficult to shoot a different string of fire efficiently when called to do so if we did not achieve the desired effect on the target or are required to shoot a different string of fire on a range.

So it is helpful to develop shooting rhythm, but also change it up and make yourself think while you’re shooting. That’s why we do rhythm drills but then change them up and make ourselves think fast and change things up on the fly.

I just play airsoft. With that said I do feel that transition drills are one of the most consistently beneficial drill types to practise. Weapon manipulation around obstacles and thresholds is another too notch one. As well as mixing no-shoot targets in for positive target identification.
Nobody likes teammates without at least a 1.0 KD. Nor does anybody like getting shot by someone with the same colour armband as them 🤪

Excuse my ignorance, but how far away are these targets, and is there special rounds being used?
I'm only concerned about the ricochet, or is it the angle you used the steel targets.
I've recently bought some steel targets and want to gather all the information possible for my own safety and others…
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, much appreciated

So this is blowing like 30 bucks through the barrel to practise what kind of combat? The whole drill setup with fighting multiple targets at 40yrds is extremely theoretical. Reminds me on those edgy hand to hand combat tricks where you are supposed to disarm one guy and knock out two others while being surrounded. In before "but the target acquision", you can practise that perfectly with single shots from a low ready.

Hey Karl, question: I saw a picture of you shooting an 82 (or 107) with a PAS-13B on top. Did you use the M2 reticle or the MIL reticle for that since there was no 107 reticle until at least the C models it looks like. Also, what was your experience with scope bite, having to press your eye into the cup to activate the screen. It's… close to the housing when you activate it. Or did you have a way to avoid rocking your orbital socket into the next dimension by cheesing the activation or something? Asking for a friend.

Why does rhythm matter? Why not shoot what you can see (reactive) shooting, and accuracy, recoil control, and target transitions DO matter. I’ve never heard anyone say “accuracy really isn’t the point….” Accuracy is literally the one thing that matters every time.

The biggest reason to use the shot timer is SPLIT TIMES, NOT overall drill time. Using the shot timer to check your split times shows you how consistent your rhythm is.
