Links for all items are listed in the write-up below:
This week’s video I wanted to touch a bit on Survival systems. I get asked a lot to do more videos on survival subjects. They all want to know what I keep in my EDC, my bags, and in my vehicles. I preach that your best weapon & tool will always be the knowledge that you have up in your “brain housing box.” That said, it does help to have certain items, to make bad situations more bearable.
So, this week’s video will cover what I recommend you keep (at a minimum) in all the vehicles that your family has. To show that I “practice what I preach,” I am showing the bag that is kept in the trunk of my daughter’s car. Below you’ll find Amazon links to most of the items, to save you time hunting.

Old Book Bag (I used last year’s school bag)

Life Hammer- (Window Punch and seatbelt cutter) Buy these direct from Joe “The Knife Guy” 215-947-0200 or email him at jtraurig@verizon.net and don’t forget to mention I sent you.

SPARE FUEL (Prototype: Seriously, this stuff was designed in the 1980s, but never took off. They are currently looking for new investors. If you have money and are interested in investing, please reach out to Jim, at Jhoch@koakonsulting.com)

First Aid- (Basic Small Kit, that I then plus up from my own First Aid supplies)
https://amzn.to/2AxiJ1t

I then stuff that plastic box into a good IFAK (I like RED, for ease to finding), along with all the good trauma gear that I covered in our IFAK video (found in video archive)

Red IFAK https://amzn.to/2Kj6iFZ

Battery Jump Starter (Don’t skimp… Get a good set)-https://amzn.to/2n1Fnp9

Tire Inflator-https://amzn.to/2NX9Jo0

Tire plug kit- (I then put this into the tire inflator case)
https://amzn.to/2O4Js7l

Emergency food rations- (Get the Coast Guard approved versions)
https://amzn.to/2McqOtY

Space Blanket (Big Heavy-weight version)
https://amzn.to/2AwVjcn

Glock E-Tool- (I love this thing)
https://amzn.to/2At2Clz

550 Cord (Need I say more?)-
https://amzn.to/2McrlvY

Hand warmers
https://amzn.to/2v6x4No

Leatherman Wave
https://amzn.to/2KiDm0U

Toilet Paper Travel Roll (or 3)
https://amzn.to/2NZAubE

Water Purification
https://amzn.to/2O4mg9q

Ponchos (Trash Bags work better for me, but not the girls)
https://amzn.to/2O3ynn8

Hand Sanitizer
https://amzn.to/2Kf0Unu

Old Sneakers (Buy new Hiking Shoes and put current ones in Bag, while they still fit)

That about covers it. I know there a tons more items to have in case of an emergency. Hell, my Jeep only gets 12.7 miles to the gallon of fuel, because of all the emergency gear I have inside. However, my daughter doesn’t need a high-lift jack or a CB radio. Her number one tool will still always be using her head and the knowledge that we have taught her. That, and having her father on Speed Dial.

Thanks for watching. Strength & Honor, TR.

I live in MN so I always pack cold weather gear for a potential blizzard, where you will likely use your vehicle as a shelter.

    (12) 18 hr hand/body warmers
    Spare cold weather clothing
Compact cold weather mummy sleeping bag.

For someone that is perhaps less skilled at things… ahem … get a tire inflator that has a psi setting so they can set it and forget it. Oh, put a piece of tape with the psi setting on the pump lol. Trust me, this matters.

Kitty Litter, matches in a waterproof match container, knife, map of the area [at least a road map] compass, a canteen, metal cup and small stove set like the British army canteen set [see Knife Country. USA] and alcohol based fuel tabs. This allows for the prep of a hot drink or even soup. Warm socks and high quality 1 gallon zip lock bags that you can wear over your socks so if your feet get wet [like when walking in the snow in last years sneakers] your feet and socks stay dry. On the really nice to have side, an old cashmere sweater against your skin is remarkably effective at making you warm fast.

Thanks this helped me out allot, i'm going on a long 12 hour road trip half of which will be desert. I already prepped Jack, Impact Wrench, and portable air pump. The First Aid kit, Emergency Food Ration and tire repair kit are also a must along with most of them things you mentioned. I also got a Hydration Bladder and a LifeStraw Portable Water filter. This video was great to help me think about what I really needed for my car adn Survival. Many of your links in the video discription didn't work for me. You might want to check and fix them.

Triangles are great to have. Flares are nice, but they don't last very long and you could easily be waiting for assistance for hours.

Good info. Did I miss fire extinguishers? I've seen people get trapped in cars. One or two get , but one can't.

In the fall trees leaves turn a shade of orange. I would have a bright blue reflective emergency tarp ( if you can ) or a blue panel that stands out from the orange trees. And blue is actually very rare in nature true blue not light refraction is one thing a butterfly that is it but orange is all over the world. So just think about the air crew looking for you in the fall. And with the color of your vehicle in bad weather the earth colors is hard to find in bad conditions. And I would add a L.E.D strobe to the car and white light travels farther than blue or red proof how many red stars do you see with your eyes? Now they do make laser light for signal aircraft they have a wide beam but it not safe for prolonged exposure like any laser. And bug out tools and survival tools are not the same so don’t use survival tools in your bug out and bug out may last longer but they are harder to see at a distance unlike survival tools.

I have about ½ the space in my trunk. Thing that takes up the most space is water (mostly lemonade vitamin water because my mom just throws it away lol.) Anything tastes good when ur dehydrated.

Finally! I was looking for an emergency kit that didn't take up the entire trunk! 😁 I'd probably switch the gas thingy for some storm matches and a water bottle but other than that, it was perfect for my needs 😊

$50-$100 in small bills ($5’s maybe) in the event a credit card doesn’t work or you need to buy gas from a farmer in the middle of nowhere. Carry at least enough to fill the gas tank from empty and put it where it won’t be raided. Also, pro tip if your family travels interstates: If you get a flat, call the police so that they can park a car with the lights flashing so you or your family doesn’t get hit by a jackass doing 80mph that ignores your flares. My daughter had a flat in the middle of nowhere and AAA could not find a tow company to tow her to safety. After the AAA failure and 3 hours of stressing, she called the cops and an officer protected her while she changed the tire. The cop wasn’t allowed to help her beyond holding a flashlight for her. But thankfully she was adept at changing a tire. Oh yeh, 30 minute flares can be a lifesaver. Carry at least 6 of them

I keep a tow strap in every vehicle. If you (or family) get just off into the snow but don't have enough traction and someone stops to help having a strap and hardware to attach it can save a lot of time and hassle, I keep it rolled up in the original package until used in a low traction vehicle. I've pulled a few people back onto the road easily having one available to offer in my truck.

Put some old shoes in my car as well. Can't believe I didn't ever think of it before. Recently was on my way to my car after work and I stepped in a huge puddle and soaked my shoes. Luckily thanks to this video I had my extra shoes and socks in the car. Thanks Karl!

Thank you for the info I'm making emergency kits for each family member. It's really for my father. His truck overturned and flew into the water. He was stuck inside. Thank God some passer byers saw him and pulled him out of the winter waters. It's really for him but I'm going to do everyone a emergency kit so he doesn't feel targeted. Thank you sir and Happy Holidays to you and your family…❤️🥰
