Many shooters don’t even realize that their grip on the gun isn’t as effective as it can be. A good grip controls the leverage of the gun on your hands and minimizes muzzle flip. It also enables good trigger finger placement and control. One of the overlooked aspects of a good grip is also retaining your weapon in a hands on engagement. A good grip has to give you all of those abilities.
We’re discussing guiding principles of a good grip here. Tweak it and make it comfortable for you. As long as you adhere to the principles you can achieve a good, comfortable grip. Just make sure that you grip high on the gun, create maximum friction between your hands and the frame of the gun and apply the correct amount of pressure in the right places.

Excellent video Gentlemen thank you
The most comprehensive take on the subject I've come across. I personally prefer the thumb-forward grip. But it was interesting to learn more about the thumb-over-thumb one from its active practitioner. Many thanks for sharing your knowledge guys!
Thank you all
Great video. As a beginner I needed the info on the hand grip. Thanks
Borat spitting str8 facts
Way cool. Thanks.
I'm a 62 y/o woman and due to age, my thumbs have begun deforming due to joint issues, so neither of these work for me but I get as close as possible. I agree it's has to be up to each individual to keep practicing and decide for yourself which way is best and safest. Great video. Thanks.
Thank you so much i tired watching shorts and they all sucked not enough info. Very detailed I appreciate it
I put tennis raquet grip on my pistols. It works real well and handles sweat better than anything else
As a newbie shooter, 3 classes and counting, thank you for this. I now understand why I can feel the pistol jerk up in my hands (fingers area) as if I was going to drop it. Again, thank you so much!!!
This is a really good video that helped me reinforce some fundamentals, but I will say that the "Israeli grip" with one thumb over the other isn't immediately feasible for me because I run a Beretta 92; if you know anything about the 92, you'd know that it's actually necessary to ride your thumb lower than normal, lest you accidentally depress the slide catch. In any case, I'm grateful that Rossen and Imri went through all of this with us.
Your statement of prinicipals makes this the best grip video. Also the slow motion photography show that both grips properly aplled work great;almost no muzzel flip on either grip. All.human bodies are different. All hands are different, so knowing these pricippals are of primary importance. Thanks much
👍
I noticed that, when you guys were together showing the grip, your left thumb was high and appeared to be resting on the slide. When you were firing, your thumb moved down below the slide, which is obviously where it should be. Just an observation for viewers to be aware of so they hopefully don't slice their thumbs when the slilde kicks back. Also, it's interesting that every other "professional training" YT video that I've seen shows the left index finger on the left side of frame just under the slide, and you guys show all four left fingers wrapped around the right fingers. I think your way provides a more solid clamp on the gun to reduce recoil and keep the gun pointing forward. Keep up the good work, I definitely learned something here.
After all that sand rub off his grip he's going to have a Glock 3M .
When I want the facts I come to TR.
Oddly, not a single successful competitive shooter uses the crossed thumb technique.
Your video has helped me tremendously
Putting your thumb along the frame is the dumbest trend in pistol grip I've ever seen 1 uour support hand is doing nothing, 2 it can cause a malfuntion your support thumb should be wrapped over your dominant thumb, period watch any video of this dumb style of holding you will see the gun break the grip when held this way, so dumb
Thx
Thank you!
Great grip specific info. By watching this I have discovered I absolutely prefer that cross thumb grip hands down. Thanks I have a qualification shoot coming up👍🏾
I like to keep coming back to this one. Every time I lay off for any time, like a month, on shooting pistol I need a refresher.
REGARDLESS…. of how you're TOLD to hold your GUN "PISTOL" You need to hold your pistol "gun" the way that you can be BEST PROFICIENT with it.. & DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE BULLSHIT FLIP "RECOIL" because if you have a FIRM GRIP on the gun it will get back on target as fast as you NEED IT TO!!!!
How does one stiffen the wrist of the strong side hand when you have to relax the grip?
There’s a lot of great instructors out there. Really good teachers and communicators – which makes them very persuasive. Unfortunately most of them teach the “only” way of thumbs forward. That does such a disservice to new shooters. I wanted the thumbs forward to work for me and I gave it a good go. But for my hands and the guns I shoot – the thumb over thumb is FAR superior for me. I try both every time I shoot a new gun – and without fail, thumb over thumb works for me and thumbs forward absolutely does not. Everyone is different. And every gun is too – different grips, frames, slides, controls, etc. There just is no ONE way. Do what works best for you – and don’t waste time trying to force a way that doesn’t work for your hands and gun combo.
Good stuff 😎🤘🏼
I always wondered why they didn’t use a thumbs forward grip in call of duty. So they teach thumb over thumb in the military? Interesting 🤔
Pretty good
Very strong and effective grip. AKA "The thumbs crush grip." Good for combat. Although not as strong, the "thumbs forward grip" is good too.
I have rarely seen videos were they explain it in such great detail this is a very good video for beginner/intermediate shooters
Continuing the process Imri started of un-yukking my grip. Thanks TR et all
Best tutorial on grip I've seen.
