Sid, from T1G, takes us through the definitions of Speed and Tactical Reloads. Speed: you’re out of ammo; gas that puppy up as quick as possible. Tactical: There’s a lull in the fight; gas that puppy up, but save the half full magazine for later use. Even if you only shot a few rounds, do you really want to go into the next room with a half-full gun? No. So, take a second, and put in a full mag.

One thing I want to highlight, is where Sid says to conduct your reload; up, right in front of your face. It’s a “pet peeve” of mine, when shooters reload down in front of their waist. With their head down, they lose total situational awareness to their surroundings. That would seem fine in training. However, we react under stress how we have been taught; so, train as you fight. If you think you will be able to take your eyes off the bad guy to your front with the AK while you watch your reload at waist level, you are sadly mistaken. You’ll be stuck staring at him, while your body messes up a simple reload, because you have never practiced doing it correctly. Rather, again, train as you will fight under stress. Keep your head up trained on the target. Conduct that reload right in front of your face, as Sid showed in the video. You’ll be able to look through the front sight of the gun and keep constant awareness of the enemy. Did he hide behind the car to the left or behind the tree to the right? You wouldn’t know if you had been staring at your crotch, during the reload. However, with the gun up, you know where he went and have your weapon ready for when the monkey sticks his head back out. Plus, if you have any problems with your weapon, it’s already up where you can see it. It works. It’s what the pros do; and it’s why we teach it.

So the next time you’re on the range and that pistol runs dry, don’t just holster up and go “admin.” Rather, treat every pause as a chance to conduct a Speed or Tactical Reload. Practice makes perfect. Proper Practice builds Proper Muscle Memory. Muscle memory builds speed, and speed wins gunfights.

Regards magazine holder when wearing owb on left hip, which side should bullet side be facing? Front or towards rear? I'm assuming it should face foward

Very satisfying and cool to watch. The recent Call of Duty games use these cool mag retention techniques in their reload animations. Those games have made me appreciate reload techniques so much, wish I could own guns like that in my country.

I don’t agree with the pocketing the half mag. Now if you have two full fresh mags in the pouch, sure, but if you don’t, i don’t see why you wouldn’t put that back in the pouch. You are LITERALLY trained to retrieve a mag from the pouch, not your pocket. When tac reloading, move the fresh mag to the front, and put the half one in the back. But the home of a loaded mag, even half, is the mag pouch. Again, if the ouch doesn’t contain fresh mags.

I'm not a professional but seems your tac reload has pointless steps correct me if I'm wrong again not a professional just shoot frequently why not shoot x amount and when doing a tac reload press the release with your hand on the mag and put that mag in your pocket then grab fresh mag and stick in gun so your arms not going down up then back down a little then mag goes in and then you bring your arm back down to put in pocket then back up to gun it's a quick down then back up

Why speed reload with a round in the chamber then rack the slide. Should've demonstrated it at slide lock.

Did this guy really say tapping the mag to make sure it's seated is gonna cause a malfunction?? 😵‍💫

Slide release is the most efficient method to use to chamber a round after a slide lock reload. About .5> seconds if using sling shot or traditional rack compared to the slide release.

Good info. When doing Tactical reload you should still drop the mag if you are in actual dew dew situation. That’s what Varsity Team Unit guys preach/teach so I gotta go with them.

AT THE SAME TIME I DRAW MY WEAPON, I ALSO DRAW 2 MAGS FROM THE POUCH AND HOLD THEM BETWEEN MY FINGERS TO HELP THAT HAND CONTROL THE WEAPON . WHEN I EJECT THE EMPTY MAG, A NEW ONE GOES IN IMMEDIATELY .

I'm sure someone has mentioned this by now, but that is a slide stop lever. The slide lock lever is used for something different.

    Edit: Still useful information.

I'm about 99% on board. As far as "bringing gun into your work space" I only slightly retract arms keeping gun pointed down range bringing mag to gun, also keeping my eyes down range & reloading by feel so I don't have to re-aquire targets.

On tac loads, magazine should align on-top of the pistol magwell, not below; this ensures the fresh mag is in the best view during insertion. I used to conduct tac mag changes like this video, but have been advised to load from the top side, not bottom slide, as video shows…

You should continue without pulling the slide since the pistol still has a bullet in its chamber

Just keep in mind how many bullets you have left. When you have one left in the chamber, then change magazine and you dont need to play arround with the slide back and have 1 + bullet more in action.
