As a black belt in Taekwondo who practiced self defence like this for years, I can confirm that it is indeed utter nonsense! Whenever I going on hold of a knife (rubber one) in the dojang, I would run at the person like a wild man and they would have no chance. This is all for show and I'd go as far as saying that nobody has ever been successful in doing this in real life. You'd see videos of it everywhere if somebody managed it in a real situation. I'd go as far as saying it's dangerous to be making people think that this will help them in a life or death situation.
Good techniques
If someone comes up to you with a gun and you are not dead yet… just give them what they want. They aren’t trying to kill you. Your stuff isn’t worth your life.
