Pistol combat reload (3.5 Seconds)-loaded/holstered with one round only (empty magazine). At the buzzer draw and fire one round, perform a combat reload and re-engage target with one round.
– Words mean things…Combat Reload. Many call this a slide lock reload, and it is. Under extreme stress it is common to fire your weapon empty…you won’t be counting rounds. Thus the Combat Reload addresses a fired to Black weapon. No assessment required, get the empty mag out, the loaded one in and re-engage the target. This is a subject for a whole other video…but I teach eye discipline in all aspects of weapons handling. And I teach the use of the support thumb for releasing the slide. Combine the two…and it works: it’s fast, it allows you to visually assess the success of your work, and it provides the same gun handling muscle memory for your Combat Reload on an AR. Eyes on the magwell tracking the mag insertion, eyes move to the slide release for activation, eyes see the weapon in battery, eyes track to the front sight as the weapon is presented back on target. Simple!

My primary tool is a pistol, so this is all very relevant and crucial to perfect.
Awesome drill. I understand more complicated drills can be done. But this worked great for my daughters. Keep it simple. Saves ammo at the range and the kids had a great time competing with each other.
INMHO I will agree this is a good starter drill but in reality you have to step up your game. One shot reloads are not practical in real life scenarios in this respect. Very few people walk around carrying their handguns with one round in the magazine, ready to reload if they have to use their handgun in a situation. Load that magazine up, fire the gun, get some recoil, get those arms stiff, get concentrated on target, then BAM! Pistol runs dry, speed reload, more bullets on target. Easy to get a fast drill down pat with single round reloads, easier to anticipate. Not a point of argument, just an observation.
Can you do a video on tactical reload, but focusing on slow motion. On how you clear the magazine… do you slide your fingers or hands in a special way to make the reload smooth and quick. Can you show the difference in slow motion of Not only a Tactical Reload but Emergency Reload, Reload w/ Retention (don't know what that is), Speed Reload
This is a certain drill I need to work on. I dont always have a smooth reload and "Coach" did great. Way to go.
nice series of video training …keep em coming please!
I used to shoot guns.
Gig 'em, Aggies.
Good drill, working on the basics!!!
I’m Earl Dibbles Jr and I have a short message for y’all
Man from the city tryin' to take my rifle
But there's somethin' that he needs to understand
Second amendment's only second to the Bible
He'll have to pull it out of my dead hands
Yeah, he can have opinions
I don't have to agree with 'em
Ain't nothin' wrong with me and him bein' different
Oh no no, but I think that he should know know know
How I roll
I'm a survivor, you're damn right I'm a fighter
I'm a big buck skinnin', trotline riggin' Hank Jr disciple
So don't you be offended, what granddaddy defended
This flag I'm wavin' says I'm stayin' free
Don't tread on me, no
Don't tread on me, no
Man from the city tryin' to take my corn field
Turn it into a big high rise
Make a buck, make some dough on a big deal
But that's where all my bucks and does hide
Yeah, I get high enough
Windmill and a pinch of snuff
Don't need your skyscraper, elevators, and all that stuff
Oh no no, but I still think you should know know know
How I roll
I'm a survivor, you're damn right I'm a fighter
I'm a big buck skinnin', trotline riggin' Hank Jr disciple
So don't you be offended, what granddaddy defended
This flag I'm wavin' says I'm stayin' free
Don't tread on me, no
Don't tread on me, no
If you want it, if you want it, come and take it (Come on city boy)
If you want it, if you want it, come and take it (Wanna see you try)
If you want it, if you want it, come and take it (I don't think you can)
If you want it, come and take it
Oh holy shit. Texas A&M coach. Their team is great, they dont fail to take first and second every year at SASP collegiate nationals every year. Go FSU 🙂
I don't want to come across as a keyboard warrior, my credentials are nil.
Would it be worth modifying the test a little by having them shoot for accuracy or speed and putting a random number of rounds in the mag, so that the fella is not able to preempt the reload, and his attention is on the target instead?
It would be interesting to test the difference in reaction time etc.
Cool cool Cool! 😎😎😎
If I had to choose between being in a gun fight with you two guys, or going to the mall with my mother and law…I’d probably just shoot myself.
Just a note about this drill. I discuss the concept of the “hot mag” in the notes of the Rifle Combat Reload…basically the Hot Mag is the one you should alway train to go to for this type of reload. For a Tac Reload get a mag from somewhere else. Leave the Hot one for when you must do it at speed.
I blew this reload on film. Still barely made time, still got my hits, but because we were shooting these one after the other I didn’t reset my Hot Mag. There wasn’t a mag where one was supposed to be…so I went for the next one in line (that’s part of the training too!) Mental error on my part. Your conscious brain has to be in the game also!
For you Karl fans…you should know he runs these videos like he ran his CIF Company…no do overs, no alibis…get it right or don’t. All the stuff you see on film is exactly how it happens the first time out with no edits, no retakes, no “let’s do that again.” If you miss…you own it.
Want to be a steely-eyed killer like these guys? The above has to be your attitude every single day. Don’t matter how long you have been in the unit, or what you have done in the past, you are what you can do right now. And if if that isn’t up to snuff, you are shown the door. Thats just the way it has to be.
wow fast ! The concentration and the muscle memory is amazing for this tough drill. Practice/training. Thx for the info.
Appreciatin' the easy, no side steppin' azimuth of facts.
Knowin' where your goin' & where your gonna' be when you get there!
-former sgt. 82nd.
best channel period. i know the shit you had to go though to get that tab . i spent 4 years at Bragg , on division road . 82nd all the way . mad respect for the JFK special warfare guys . your end of the road had the best chow halls .
This is a tough drill. It definitely takes practice to smooth out the rough spots and make sure your rig is set up in a way that will work in various scenarios.
Bravo!
Yeah and your rifle will be in the way of your reload!
Manda um Boa noite pro Brasil .
Muito show o treinamento de vcs …..parabéns
