In this video we are comparing Barnes TAC-XPD 9mm against Corbon Pow’RBall .45acp. I’m shooting them into VYSE professional grade ballistic gelatin blocks from Custom Collagen from 10 meters away. We opted to use these two types of ammo in an effort for a blind comparison between different size calibers and without using a pistol vs. rifle caliber. Members of Tactical Rifleman paid for the ammo and firearms in this video and were not paid by any manufactures of any of the products used.
Both of these bullets are hollow point in order to show a closer comparison of bullets in different calibers. The 9mm TAC-XPD is 115 grain and has 1125fps velocity while the .45 acp Pow’RBall 50 grains heavier at 165 grains and has 1225 fps velocity. The 9mm is shot with a Sig Sauer P320 RX and the .45acp is shot with Caspian 1911.
I will say that I was surprised with the results between the two and I thought there would be a closer outcome with shooting them into the gelatin. Between the two, one is 50 grains heavier, flies 100fps faster and is about .10 in caliber size larger of a bullet. Once the 9mm enters, it opens up to about .75” penetrates through the first block into the second. This was very consistent with all three rounds fired. The .45acp due to the polymer ball helps open up the hollow point to over 1” in size and stops just before going through the first block. The polymer is also designed to improve aerodynamics to the bullet while in flight .vs a standard hollow point round and enhances feeding in semi auto pistols.
Tactical Rifleman, nor I, is telling or suggesting what ammo to use for self defense just merely showing a comparison of two different types. Please do your own research and understand that shot placement will always out perform type, size and number of rounds used.

Gents, Pete swears by his Powrball, and I swear by my TAC XP. So, it only made sense to do a video pitting them head to head. The Powrball does feed better and, damn, the results were impressive. I hope you enjoy the video. Strength & Honor, TR.
9mm hits like a fist. The .45 like a sledge hammer.
Good video. Always a fun debate. I have a Glock 19, 9mm. I get good shot placement and 15 rounds. Ive fired .45 and dont really like extra recoil.
I might be more "generic" but my Glock is a workhorse, never jams, not "pretty.
With all that said, I don't break into people's homes/cars. Try to let other drivers just go around me, use my signal. I like my life boring and no desire to get shot at all.
45 is Like a little mini Grenade once it enters. So much energy
45 Superior knock down power
i use a Shoulder Holster with a Smith Wesson Shield 45 lots of lead.
45 slow moving stays in the body large hole at 10-yard carry 3 clips are the brightest brand laser Viridian for day light use wheelchair Larry.
The 45 is obsolete.! Can we move on?
45 ACP Rules. Internet Ninjas 🥷 Just Can’t Accept The Truth.
Is it a hollow point if you put a ball in it?
Your dropping what you hit with either round, 9mm. At least you can carry more ammo.
45 is made to be a man stopper period enough said

Thanks for the great video.
I've come to appreciate both. Can't go wrong with either.
Shoot what you like but make sure you practice. Own both the 9mm and 45acp. My 9mm was a Springfield xD service model and the 45 acp was SR45 ruger. Went to range with the Ruger SR45 and took 400 rounds. Came back home with 350 rounds. With the 9mm it was never enough ammo when going to the range.
Fun fact: 45 acp is not a bullet the bullet is called 45 auto acp stands for (automatic colt pistol) even on the box of ammo it says 45 auto and if anyone can explain why is there a ball in a hp
Gee is 45 mor powerful than 9 mm wow I didn’t know that at legal shooting defense shoot does it make much difference how about 357 mag against 45. 357 will win
9mm goes deeper. 45 acp makes a larger wound cavity than a 9mm but doesn't go in as deep. I have two 9mm pistols and one 1911 45acp. All loaded out with hollow points. My next pistol will be a Springfield XD-M Elite 4.5 OSP in 10mm.
For carry and comp: 9.
For outdoor and suppresor use: 45

Doesn't really seem like a fair test to me when your using 2 different brands of ammo. With the same exact round for each, it would be a better comparison.
If you talk with a Vietnam veteran they going to tell you nothing but good things about the 45. Yes the 9mm carry more rounds but this folks fought in a very tough environment with 7 rounds magazines, I think the "carry more rounds" come more to lack of self confidence and insecurity for lack of training.
45 ACP is the superior choice
45 CALIBER HAS MUCH STOPPING POWER THAN 9MM. 9MM IS JUST GOOD FOR COMETITION, BUT FOR HOME AND SELF DEFENSE, CHOOSE 45 CALIBER.
Again… Nobody has yet pulled me away from the awesome .45ACP round. It just works and it is very consistent, too. I'm not going to kill my neighbor down the street with over penetration. I don't like 9mm and I never will. And don't even get me started on the 10 mm… UGH!!!!!
Your more likely to die from a 45 than 9mm
9mm better. The end
I would choose .45 for self and home defense as it have less chance of overpenetration reduced the risk of collateral damage.
Which 9mm and smaller faster calibers tends to do when hitting non vital organs or thinner materials.
I'm going to ended up shooting more .22 or 9mm on the range anyway.
