Normally I only have small things to say about a lot of these vids because I've yet to be in a particular type of event, but for this, I actually HAVE had to do this. Long story short, my cousin's were swimming out back my grandmother's when all of a sudden the older one comes in frantic, so I went out back and my youngest cousin was a good 100 feet from shore, doing his best to stay above water, and failing miserably, it's crazy deep out there! Needless to say I didn't hesitate, luckily. He's alive today, but after it happened, I got to thinking, I didn't really prepare for anything going wrong, luckily it didn't, but i could have brough a life jacket with me or something, it's funny how foggy our thoughts are in an emergency. And hindsight is always 20/20.

As a Detroit resident with water in every direction it never ceases to amaze me how many inner city residents can't swim. When I saw the river I figured what was about to transpire. I'm glad one of the officers was an undercover cop…imagine a patrol officer having to take off 30 pounds of gear to jump in. All in all it turned out ok, and East Detroit cops or Macomb ("Muh-comb", emphasis on comb) County cops are stand-up guys and gals. Respect.

Go Navy! lol, yeah the swim test was fun wasn't it. 🤣
When I first watched this I was like "that's not how you hand a weapon to anyone, even an officer". Yeah I know he is in a hurry but! Also the officer going for the weapon could have easily stuck his finger in the trigger guard and there could have been a negligent discharge with injuries and then the perp would have drowned because they would have been dealing with a wounded officer and they would have forgotten about the drowning perp.

You better have good swimming skills to rescue someone who's drowning! There are far too many "rescuers" who end up drowned when doing this.
I've been trained as a lifeguard most of my life (Boy Scouts) and qualified WSQ in the Marine Corps – only 2 of us in an entire Battalion; but when you enter the water, there's always a risk to yourself.
Reach, Throw, Row, and Go. Follow that, and you'll live much longer. This guy was pretty big. Don't risk your life willy nilly.
