I would like to quickly share that after serving on grand jury duty for 6 months which made me start watching channels like Active Self Protection it has made me much more aware when I go out in public.
Walking into Walmart one Sunday after church I saw a young man watching me as he flipped his hoody up. Then he was doing something just inside his front waistband….did he have some kind of weapon? We kept eye contact almost all the way to the door which was about 25'. Was he trying to intimidate me? He was coming in from the far right and I was coming straight into the door perpendicular to him.
I should have slowed enough to let him enter first but didn't. I just kept walking and trying to look like 'I'm not afraid of you.'
He came in right behind me as I got a buggy but I stopped right at the greeter. She immediately stepped into the aisle coming on into the store so the young man saw her checking him out. He walked on into the store as I stood still right where I stopped.
A couple came walking in very quickly and begin talking to the greeter. She was already on her mike talking to security and describing the young man. The young man's right hand was shaking like crazy.
The greeter told me she had already tagged him as suspicious before he had come in as he had walked past the door but not entered a little earlier. Not sure what happened after this. I got a few things and left. When I exited the store there was a different greeter so I wondered if the other was making a security report or how they handle those kind of things. Since nothing bad happened to me, I was sort of glad for the experience. More and more it makes me a little suspicious of others and my surroundings. I carry the things I'm learning to carry to help me be my first responder. Appreciate this channel. Jesus bless.

The video is over 2 years old now, but I do pay more attention to my surroundings in parking lots, gas stations, etc as I get in and out of my car than I used to.

I live in a very safe little town where nothing ever happens. I happen to work in a town of about 65,000 where shootings are relatively common. I use to be so cavalier about stopping at one of the convenience stores there to buy stuff for the house on my way home from work at night. I am carrying now. Finally saw enough. I lock my car when I get out, and remember to scan the parking lot and make eye contact if possible. I try to demonstrate a smiling yet "aware" persona. Don't want to shoot anyone ever, but will do so to avoid being a victim or helpless when someone else is in dire need. This world is not the one I grew up in.

Sadly, Active Self Protection is a mindset. I always try to be vigilant and aware of my surroundings, but my wife is a hopeless failure! She often drives into our driveway at home, chatting away on her phone, blissfully UNAWARE of anything around her. No matter how many times I "suggest" to her that she should not make, or take incoming calls whilst driving close to home, she continues to do so. She thinks I'm paranoid! Nevertheless, I will continue to stay aware and "paranoid", and I guess she'll continue to wing it her way. I can only hope and pray that she never becomes a victim of car jacking or crime!
