Thanks for the great video
To open carry, or to conceal carry, which shall it be. First of all, if you have a concealed carry permit that was issued by the city or town that you reside in, you have no choice. In Rhode Island you are allowed to conceal carry only. If, however, your permit was issued by the state's Attorney General, then the option is there for you to use or not. Most of the so-called experts will tell you that open carry is not a good idea, and their list of reasons goes on and on. They are entitled to their opinion. Opinions are like belly buttons. Everybody has one. I grew up in a high crime area and I knew all of the bad people, the smart ones and the stupid ones. None of them wanted to get shot. Open carry is like a sign on the fence that says, ābeware of the dog.ā I've traveled armed for more than 50 years, openly since 1985 and I will never know how many times trouble has taken a detour rather than confront an old man with a gun. I am 87 years old but the 45 on my side makes me 10 feet tall. It's my personal sign that says beware, this old dog still bites. Unarmed people are a much safer target. Recently, local law enforcement, being uninformed about the state statute that allows open carry with the proper permit, chose to challenge the validity of my decision. They firmly believed that open carry was against the law in the state of Rhode Island. I was threatened with arrest and possible jail time. Eventually the city solicitor was able to convince the Police Department that what I was doing was perfectly legal and that their opinion about my reason didn't matter. On the plus side, this was the first time since I started carrying openly 38 years ago that law enforcement even noticed me. Rhode Island has a population of over 1,000,000 and only 3500 people were issued a permit to carry. That's less than half of 1%. Many people with permits don't know that they are allowed to open carry or are afraid of reprisal from the Police if they do. I have never seen another Rhode Islander open carrying. I will no longer argue the point. My reasons are personal, and I no longer choose to share them or argue the validity of my actions. My reasons are none of your business. The only pertinent question is, āis it legal?ā When asked āWhat are you afraid of?ā My reply has always been, – Nothing.
I would NEVER open and carry, because there is absolutely no point and if you open and carry, shows me and others that you're just a show off smh
Damn that was quick ššš
Only open carry with lvl 3 duty holster doing security, cuz they make me.
Nope. Dont walk around flashing $700 in cash either.
If you open carry in the streets, youāre a dumbass.
I open carry with a safariland model 6360 als/sls mid ride holster
Open carry seems like just a ego feeder or booster. Open carry just says hey I have a gun, I am the first person you need to take of.
Everyone who open carries is a moron. Why not just attach a huge neon sign on your back that says free gun?
Good luck with just a description. Never catch that perp that way.
No open carry for me I'm not a target
Open carry recently passed in South Carolina but I would never open carry as I donāt want to draw attention to myself.
Whether you're an open carrier, concealed carrier, or a truck gun carrier(like me), here's what you must know:
First, have skills and confidence in using that gun to defend yourself with. I wouldn't carry a truck gun if I wasn't skilled and confident with my EDC.
Second, be nice and courteous to everyone you meet. DO NOT shove your rights and beliefs in people's faces! Don't engage in ego battles!
One time, I got pulled over while carrying a truck gun. I was courteous and upfront with the officer about having a gun in my car with me. He thanked me for being courteous and upfront. Spared me the citation too. When he asked me why I carry, my answer was for personal defense. Whenever someone asks me why I carry, I prefer to say for self defense, instead of "It's my 2nd Amendment right." I think it's better that way.
Third, maintain situational awareness. Now I know that open carry has that major deterrent value. Dr. Gary Kleck's research discovered that 92% of criminals are deterred at the sight of an armed citizen. I personally see and meet open carriers from time to time in my area and so far nobody attacked them. Most criminals prefer easy prey, at least easy looking prey.
That being said, that's still no reason to let your guard down. While most criminals won't target open carriers, some won't care and will still try to disarm you. This applies to concealed carriers and truck gun carriers too. We all need just as much situational awareness as one another. As a food delivery driver, I have to constantly stay vigilant. I've read that I have one of the most dangerous lines of work. Even more so than being a cop according to a couple of sources. I've ran into at least a couple weirdos. Thankfully the only time I've ever faced an attack was when a pair of Rottweillers chased me. I had my OC spray handy, but I had an escape opportunity. I leaped into my car, locked the door, and let my client know about her dogs.
Fourth, stay away from bad areas. Don't think that carrying a gun for self defense makes you invincible. It doesn't. Whether I'm working or not, I stick to suburbs and rural areas as much as possible. I don't like hanging around urban areas so much.
Fifth, carry OC spray too, and have at least some empty handed skills too.
Finally, sign up for some kind of legal defense program to help you survive the legal aftermath of a defensive incident.
"I don't need it. I'll never be attacked. I live in a nice safe neighborhood."
There's no guarantee of that! I personally rely on and recommend Self Defense Fund!
Keep up the awesome videos John!!!
run into the garage and grab the uzi!
If your dumb enough to let a 14 year old take your gun, you don't deserve to keep it, now there's another gun out there for the bad guys, capital Failure. šš
Well, VICTIM! You are lucky you didn't get shot with your own gun.
No, I do not open carry.
A retention holster is only part of what you need to open carry safely. Practice drawing from the retention holster until it is second nature. Practice defending against someone grabbing your gun. A backup weapon, either a concealed handgun or a can of pepper spray, which you can access with your weak side hand while your strong side hand is defending your (foolishly) open carried sidearm,. Much better to carry your primary handgun concealed, but still carry a backup weapon of some sort, in case you are relieved of you primary weapon.
99% CCW . almost open carry in my home or property.
Hall no!!!
14 years old. His Thug-Life started young. In an interview, the victim said he observed the kid walking back and forth near the property. Obviously, the kid's behavior should've caused some red flags to go up, and certainly warranted better vigilance by the victim. Glad they caught the future social justice victim.
It wouldāve been funny if the guy had those bullets that jam gun so you canāt shoot
He failed to cover his asp
I live on a 36-acre horse ranch. I open carry when I doing chores around the ranch but never off the property.
Open carry is the stupidest thing ever..conceal carry folks!
Guy was like if you didn't have my gun š« pointed at me I'd ewwwww'youu m'f erāŗš
The rules of stoopid donāt change when your firearm changes hands. At that point he is an armed perp and you are a victim. Legal ownership is not a substitute for body armor.
No
I keep leaving the eye out of your name.
I do when Iām hunting or on my own property but mostly in bear country
NO NO NO NO NO!
I couldn't find the poll but I haven't open carried in 10 years
Unless you are transporting valuables or are in high risk areas I think people look silly and generally come off as cowards or bullies when they try to walk around and interact in public with a gun on their hip. There really is no call for it in most instances and it tends to amp up nervousness, anxiety and awkwardness. Additionally, the rare instances where it will actually be of any benefit are so remote as your videos so keenly demonstrate, it isn't worth the risk, trouble or attention. It seems like more often than not, the gun is misused, escalates a situation or increases blood shed. People will make the argument that "guns don't kill people; people kill people." I like to flip that logic around for fun and say, "Guns don't save lives, people save lives."
We went to the beach with another couple years ago. We arrived in separate cars and the guy came down to the beach, wife and toddler in tow with his handgun on his hip. He was visibly awkward about it and after about 5 minutes of realizing he really wasn't that cool and there was really no need for it, he sheepishly retreated and put it back in his car.
I never open carry.
The only advantage I see open carry is being the first to get shot or your gun took case and point
Tx. As a victim of a shooting I hit the mark at a 50/50 open/close I got hurt because my shirt got in the way of my draw if I carry I have my vest or jacket for a ez draw if I ever need to (god willing I donāt) I use a Alien thumb drive otb retention holster sitting on the back half of my hip but as a general open/conceal rule open in the woods cover in the hoods and always be responsible for your own safety the safety of those in your area those in the affected area
"Let the police handle it." Yea, right. They have cut the funding to the police. So, who are you going to call, most busters?
I only do in the woods or home. I think it draws too much attention and gives away your hole card.
This is hard to watch.
Didn't look like the 14 yr old kid was new to stealing, very brazen to steal the gun, then immediately point it at the man and looked like his finger was on the trigger. I doubt this kid is a first time criminal. Unless someone or something causes him to change he will likely become a career criminal in and out of prison. I just hope he doesn't harm one or more persons permanently.
