We got a few comments on our “How to set up your Body Armor” video, asking about the helmet I had in the videos and how we go about setting a helmet up.
Simple: Don’t weigh it down with extra crap you don’t need. Keep it simple.
NVDs: Ensure your mount is tight. There’s nothing worse than having your NODs flopping around. Also, a safety note, if your helmet does not have the correct hole pattern for your new NOD mount, do NOT just drill new holes. Drilling holes in the Kevlar cuts the strings that run in every direction and weakens the entire helmet. Rather, the correct method is to drive a punch through with a press. This will cut much fewer strands and maintain the integrity of the helmet.
Lights: I’ve tried all the different helmet lights, but have found that I just prefer to use a Petzl headlamp, if extra light is needed.
One thing I forgot to mention: You might have noticed the IR American Flags on both sides of the helmet. These are for identifying Friend or Foe (IFF). Think about it; if you turn to look out a window, the snipers will only see your head. The flags help them identify you as a friendly. We tried small squares of IR Glint Tape, but the flags work much better.

Karl thank you for this video it's very useful with a lot of good advice! For me the most intresting is the Pvs battery horder, could you tell me that what brand is it?
Was gonna buy team Wendy found out they support Hillary, went with opscore
The acronym is KISS! Keep it simple stupid. That’s from the military!
Can you bring your personal own hearing protection headset/earplugs if the army doesn't provide you any, for example in a shooting training?
Worn gear is tricky to design since no two people have the same exact body build. This is especially true for helmets because the human head requires a lot of consideration: protection, mobility, weight, padding, accessory integration. Our heads are our information hubs. Most of our sensory cues are collected by our head (through sight, sound, smell, and taste) so it’s important to enable the use of these senses with the least amount of impairment brought on by protective gear. Comfort must be a high priority, because if your head is uncomfortable it’s hard to focus on anything else. And of course we need to integrate essential accessories. The modern battlefield is more advanced than the ones our fathers and grandfathers fought on. With new threats come new tactics. And with new tactics comes new gear to support them. As always, I search for a balance of combat effectiveness and comfort when assembling my gear. Every little piece gets interrogated before getting added: Will this widget help me be a more effective gunfighter? Does this item help support the three tenets of gunfighting—shoot, move, communicate?
What battery pack is being used? I am having trouble figuring out whether I need an ANVIS or BNVD cable setup for a particular system. Any advice or clear system to choose from will be beneficial.
Where can i buy your nvg kit
Thanks dude 🙏 great work 👍
So at 1 minute into the video you're telling us to find out how to set the helmet up when we're watching a video about how to set the helmet up.
Why do they look like cycling helmets?
So I can customize my Helmet after basic and osut?
Link for battery pack?
Hell, I avoided using nods as much as I could because of the weight
Thank you for the 'Get to the point' instructions .
Karl , my new point man'!
In the war in Ukraine, some commanders recommend not to fasten the helmet, because during intensive artillery shelling, a fragment that got into the helmet injured the neck
"Don't be a gear queer and add a bunch of stuff to your helmet." "Now, let me show you two helmets I use that have DUAL rails for lights, bungee cords, dual battery packs, IR mounts, and strobe lights." LOL. Good video, but just hilariously poor self-awareness.
Medic/corpsman..need lights
I just run a brodie helmet, way easier
i’m watching this like i can afford a good helmet
'' setting up you're helmet is easy , don't set it up ''
Finally got one today, thanks for the advice.
Mad facts. I know there’s Garand Thumbtard weirdos whose helmets look like the Amazon rain forest with all the wires and hoses and cables and Velcro. I just used what was issued (like your first one minus the rails) an attachable flashlight, and my goggles. I also used 4 pads, since more just makes it even sweatier inside.
Thanks for the video helps out keep it simple stupid I was always told
thank much for your info👍👍👍😆😆like dumby always wondered what that clip in front of helmet was for😇😇😇😇😇god bles I'm a 45 n have leukemia I want to know everything in survival #1
Sergeant Major Erickson: For now, all that I can afford is a hard plastic Airsoft version of the Tactical Helmet, I have a black( with a monocular Night Vision Goggle), a coyote tan, and, an Olive Drab Green version. Perhaps, when I get My Pay Raise, I AM going for a USGI MICH, or else, a Wendy Tactical Helmet with a Crye Precision ®️ Generation III Combat Uniform in MultiCam or Scorpion W2 OCP.
Hey Karl would you put a surefire light on the side? I am asking because I sometimes do contracts overseas.
Team Wendy is Democrat supporter, don’t support the enemy that’s wants your gun
IR strobes, and illuminator patches are good when fighting enemies without night vision. What about against an enemy with nightvision (ie China). wouldnt you stand out?
🇺🇸
"You're looking like a Gear Queer." LMAO! Immediate subscribe.
Me with no law and military training do I need night vision is like I tell my family have it not need it then need it and not have it
Hey Karl, what battery pack is that on your MICH? The one with the switch
Quick and to the point. I like it.
In your opinion who/what company makes the highest grade ballistic with the most stopping power ballistic helmets, I have heard that it was GENTEX/OPS CORE?
Step 1: don't set it up
Step 2: don't look like a gear queer
😂
Theses videos are sweet. But the taliban can watch them too !!! Copy?
anyone say just set it up on your head?
what a re your suggestions for lighting if youre not running nvg ?
You need to get the right size
Me with my Russian one size fits ”most” helmet
Solid advice
I just bought a legacy helmet. It has a different mount (not Wilson) is there an adapter for the Night vision?
"Gear Queer" is a First For Me wtf🤣🤣
This helped me alot
Gear Queer XD
Gear queers 👍🏾 if you served with one! 🤣 Buying the whole damn PX
MICH 2000 has both my OEF deployment sweat and dirt on them! I paid for it myself…any USMC vet knows 90% G.I. is crap! 😂
Gear Queer has been added to the gender spectrum
Within 25 seconds I gave you a thumbs up, when you said keep it clean, "dont look like a gear queer". I have seen guys that had on ONE HELMET:
Velcro all over the fucking place
1-IR Strobe
2-"Burn" tape
3-IR chemlight
4-Call Sign Patch
5-US Flag patch
6-"Fun Meter" patch (PS . . . NO ONE . . . gives a shit about your fun meter being pegged)
7-Dive Weight (literal) serving as counter wight
8-side mounted flashlight
9-2 AA batteries
*Some of these are necessary, but not nearly all, like you said, keep it clean
LATE NOTE- Forgot the HN Flag (WTF would you want THAT flag anywhere on you?)
I run a bump 🤷🏻♂️
