Dude ,you literally pushed the gun in the direction moving across your body were he could had shot you instead of to the outside of the body. But that is still so risky as reaction is always slower than the attack.If your not dead give them what they want, it's not worth the risk.

Therefore he should have used the motion that he has already created to move his body out of harms way, towards the right of the attacking person.
