Just a small criticism. I don’t agree with you on taking the safety off. If you’re on sight with a long gun, take the safety off. You shouldn’t be on sights until you likely have to shoot anyways. I believe in KISS.
Long guns are on safe until I go to sights, handguns go bang no matter what. You take the extra half second to remember what long gun you’re carrying in every high stress environment? I carry two, a shotgun and an AR. If I’m sights on on target my safety is off. It’s part of getting sights on target for me so I don’t forget which I’m carrying. I don’t need the worry. I’ll practice trigger discipline the entire time with either. However if I’m pointing it at someone there is a very high likelihood that I’m going to use it and I want it to be live. I don’t point until I’m either ready to use or issuing commands. My finger will go to the trigger when I’m ready to shoot. I don’t want a delay under stress to cost me a half second that could cost me my life.
I strongly disagree as much as I respect you John. Once I go to sights that gun better be ready to fire. I’ve never had to use an AR but have used a shotgun 2x in defense of my life.

When staring down sights of a rifle you mic with your off hand. Finger needs to always be on the trigger or at the ready. That way if you need to shoot you're always ready.

I have a gun camera for my bird and trap shooting. It would be a good idea as they get smaller to put them on police rifles.

I have to disagree with you when you said the officer with the rifle should have kept his safety on until he was ready to shoot. When you get on target, you should be ready to fire with your finger off the trigger. When the rifle is down(you are not focused on a target) the safety should go back on. I’m not a self-defense shooter but I’m a competitive shooter. The target is a threat and he should be aiming with both eyes open on that target. He closes one eye which block his views. Not good
you just can't fire your guns off indiscriminately. you use your fire arms with live ammo under three conditions, hunting, training, defending.

The rifle thumb safety off when it's shouldered, and aimed, seems reasonable to me. His finger was still off the trigger. No different than the handgun at that point, it's not like he was running around with the safety off.
Train every month, run and gun, 100yds at stand, pistol drills, mozambique drills… Run it boys. 1 time a month isnt enough, but ammo😣
