We also want to thanks CSM (ret) Rick Lamb and John Stryker Meyers for coming together and making this great video about the uniforms & equipment used by the heroes of MACVSOG during the Vietnam conflict. Lots of great little bits of hard-earned knowledge in this video. I hope you enjoy it. TR.

Cannot get enough better than reading a book
Good series, subbed! 😊 Any chance that John Plaster might do a program with you & the CSM? Thanks!
Bring'em back…Bring'em baaaack!
I love tilts laugh
Signal mirror == sunlight carries for lightyears. DUH! 😉Great to see my most revered soldier (i.e. anyone in the Nam) to elaborate on the gear. A+
I find it funny that this guy keeps telling Tilt what they had and he's like "No we didn't have that, we had this…"
-Now I know why, they got rid of the,
"Do ask, Don't tell policy" ….?
🇺🇸♣😎🏈🍺
Nothing better then geeking out over Army shit!
LEGENDARY
As well his call sign was mad dog
If that means anything to anyone. His first enlistment was back in Nam time period
I’m using the Rugged Alaskan 360, with .22/.30/.36 endcaps.
Predominantly on The HK SP5,
And Ruger American Ranch .300 Blackout. I do have the mounts try it on others when time permits. So far it works pretty well on the above 2.
You know you’re in some shit when it’s “rare” that you even got to shoulder your rifle while firing…. Firepower superiority baby 💪🏽😅 god these guys were some beasts I’ll tell you!
The STABO rig / extraction harness evolution is fascinating, especially hearing it first-hand. A couple of possible current applications: use STABO rig shoulder D-rings with a 12" hand loop clipped on for emergency casualty extraction? If using both shoulder D-rings to drag a casualty you could put some lycra netting between each hand strap to support/stabilise the casualty's head. My second idea: use the leg straps to mount ballistic material covering the groin area for protection from explosions underfoot. It'd protect a vulnerable area from secondary fragmentation (grit, sand, etc) but could still be a loose fit, be easily fitted / removed in the field, & be small enough to stow neatly.
Great video
My dad was in Vietnam in December 1965 to 1966, he had 5 purple hearts and was Ranger qualified. He started the Ranger Platoon here at OSU in the ROTC program and they still have it. Great to see how the gear and setups were.
such a great vid, would so love to see more of these kit type vids with vets!! All the best and Happy holidays, all the best from the UK
Dude how tall is Tilt?
what needs to be adressed here: more sog disappears in there and never been heard from since.
To me, these SOG guys are like our modern Mountain Men, in the sense of their absolutely insane exploits testing the very limits of human endurance and willpower. And savvy of the enemy.
Guy moving the camera around is driving me nuts leave the zoom alone
My dad served with the third brigade of the 82nd in 69 and 70 and one of his bring homes was a disarmed 26 I used to play with it as a kid
So… I really gotta wonder… HOW THE HECK he walks with balls that big…. I have read every one of his books.
Legendary
I always wondered what they did for taking a dump out there and not leave a trace? Did they dig a cat hole and bury their trash or did they go full indig and wipe with their hand?
It’s a privilege to hear from all three of you. I own all three of Mr Myers books. They are awesome and I am a navy guy.
This dude is 100% badass! I grew up idolizing these guys as well! Gyat-day-um! Stryker was a handsome devil back in the day, but I hope that the years are as kind to me as they have been for him!
Fascinating
Just a quick thanks I was born in 63 when I was growing up you guys were my heros. When I got older and went in y'all set the standard. A lot of what I know now came from yal and probably the reason I'm still here now to see my little girl get married is cause of y'all. You were my heros, my mentors, and my guardian angels. THANKS!
Alot of the equipment set up / principles and the small unit tactics are similar to what the regular Australian and New Zealand infantry use, who are expert jungle fighters.
Great stuff.
John looks like Dylan Bakers badass dad.
Watching John striker Myers podcast. It was cool to find out that there was three Canadians that were sog warriors one died in combat. One even fought with a bow in combat and the other one I think is still alive
Great video.
Yes, we want more of these Gentlemen!
Outstanding segment.
We need a John Stryker Meyer – specific gear build video!
Awesome Video!
My man you sure you can talk about Panama? That shit was legend back in my day.
dam ol tilt is freaken tall
awesome
I remember in the late 80’s doing high helo rappels from that triple branded rope 😂😂
Bring ‘em back!
The fact that tilt looks 10 years younger than my grandpa, and Tilt is actually 10 years older than my grandpa is insane.
These MACV SOG guys are literally the closest thing to Superman. The amount of respect these men receive is really a sight to behold.
TY guys, every time I hear my favorite 01, makes me remember the ones that are gone. hard not to cry. they are in our memories and heart.
