I have practiced moving while shooting at a target with a laser simulation gun. It is not easy. I want to practice shooting at a moving target. Maybe I can get a buddy to carry a target…. laser that is.

you do usually say back off the cover unless you're using it to brace yourself, and at the beginning its blurry, but it looks like he's trying to brace himself until he takes a step to the right realizing he has to shoot around the kids

We practice against moving targets, shooting around no shoots targets, appearing and disappearing targets, targets obscured by moving no shoot targets and shooting while moving.

It is easy to pick apart and judge actions from a computer and criticize, but to me this cop did the best he could have, the fact that kits rand from someone toward someone with a gun, shows that they did not .care if it was perfect but only that he was a good guy with a gun and in the right place at the right time to help

I did alot of skeet shoot in my life. I know it's not quite the same as using a single projectile weapon on a moving target, but the same rule applies, leading the target.

Correct me if I'm wrong John, that would make me better at hitting a moving threat wouldn't it? That instinct to lead the target would kick in.

I do understand that a person moves alot slower than a clay bird so it's not leading so much as just moving with the target.

The problem is most of the time. The police are train to stand still and shoot at static target at a range. A more realistic police training is to move from cover to cover and shoot behind cover.

I’ve shot at moving targets. I put a red-dot scope on a Browning Buckmaek Field way back in 1990. I could easily hit a soda can sized target on the move. John, you’re right about optics on handguns. It’s remarkably easy to keep that dot on target while the target is moving.

Officer DID NOT do the right thing.
He had NO concern for the children, firing while they were in his line of fire, and basically using them as a shield. I'll be dropping your Channel after hearing you praise his actions.
And by the way, I'm a Police Trainer for a 5,000 Officer Agency for 20 years now.

I heard a shootout once in broad daylight in downtown Mexico City. After the firing ceased I walked towards the site and saw a person who had been shot, laying under his motorcycle.

I've never shot at moving targets due to lack of infrastructure at my range to do so, but I do try shooting while actively moving to simulate this. A different skill, but better than nothing, IMO

I remember in the 90s I use to hear how México City was dangerous. Today Mexico City is actually a safe haven compared to many other parts of the country.

If I was the officer I would be scared to make a lateral step to the right. Imagine two people walking towards each other in a hallway and the little dance that happens because both parties try to move.

I dunno bout the mother n kids, but my instinct after noticing a cop pointin a gun at someone somethin sort of in my direction, but clearly not me, I wouldnt run towards him, if they either stood still or turned around, robber wasnt intrested in people. Not that the cop did anythin bad, just wonderin what was goin on inside their head at the time
